BIDS SOLICITED

02.24.25 — Tom’s email

Estimates from:

  • Hawaii Tree Company (Rich Breen):  $1190/tree or $900/tree based on height. He has a contact that grows dwarf palms for replanting. Said he could remove "some" tall areca palms without charge

    • Jack:  We should go with the bid from Hawaii Tree Trimming. Their bid is competitive, and has no qualification for a minimum number of trees, so we can determine how many trees we want removed as we go.  I also can give them a personal recommendation because they have removed trees at my home by Waimea Bay and did a great job at lower cost than other contractors.

  • Oahu Tree Works (Jon Perry): about $2300/tree on average. Certified arborist who works with expert Steve Nims. Recommends injection 2x/year. Prefers scientific data over anecdotal

  • Coconut Landscapes (Kyle Bennett): if I read this correctly it looks like $10,000 for 12 full plus 3 partial trees or $667/tree? Is the estimate too good to be true? I followed up with Kyle to make sure he will be rigging the trees for removal in sections since all the other companies said it will cost more to rig and remove trees. I thought I was clear that the trees needed to be rigged and taken down. Will share when he responds.

    • Shawn — voted yes I’m told.

    • Mel (email 02.26.25): “ I also vote we try Coconut Landscape..”

    • Jack: (email 02.27): “I also vote coconut landscapes. Their bid was good too.”

    • Cat: — yes to Coconut

For Comparison, Prior Work and known estimates from:

  • Star Farms (Mike Medus): this is our known tree contractor for the past 15 years and they now charge about $2000/tree

  • OFA Landscaping (Siosi): recently took down six trees at $850/tree but he has stopped communication with MBC
